Description
This one-legged chair was meant to alleviate one of Saarinen's great concerns: clutter. Eero Saarinen vowed to eliminate the "slum of legs" found under chairs and tables with four legs.
BACK TO BASICS
In his purist approach to design, Eero Saarinen sought out the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution. He designed the chair in terms of its setting, rather than a particular shape.
STURDY
While the elegant Tulip armchair looks as if it is made of all one material, the sculptural seat is actually supported on an aluminum stem with reinforced fiberglass.
