Karuselli is exceptionally comfortable as well as stylistically distinctive precisely because it is ergonomically based on the shape and proportions of the human body.
Legend has it that the original design for the Karuselli Chair was inspired by the silhouette of Kukkapuro’s daughter, Isa, made in a mound of snow.
This infamous chair is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Vitra Design Museum, Museum of Industrial Art, National Museum in Stockholm and Die Neue Sammlung.
Designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro
FINLAND (April 6, 1933 - present) Kukkapuro first learned about ergonomics in 1958 via a lecture on the physiology of chairs based on a study by the Swedish doctor Bengt Åkerblom. From that point, body-conscious design became not just an interest but a crusade.Above all, Kukkapuro touts functionality: The materials, the manufacturing process, and the end result should be logical and user-friendly.
